Around the end of this decade, four generations will be sharing the office environment. Generation Z—the kids of Gen Xers—will be entering the workforce at this time. We need to consider whether the complex, sometimes ambiguous planning models and spaces popularized by Generation Y will work for all these types of personnel. Get to know a planning approach that emphasizes the “legibility” of space. Legible offices offer understandable planning configurations, and spaces that clearly communicate their intended use. Legible office space is inclusive, and will take on critical importance for office workers of different generations and abilities. Discover this universal design principle for the four-generation office. We’ll cover the basic concepts and tenets, and then practice applying this approach to a hypothetical planning problem. Build your skills for the office of the very near future—you need to know how to help clients address their multi-generational workforce.[INTERMEDIATE][FM][OF]
